Why a prepare for birth workshop?

Antenatal courses often set out to "train" women to give birth. This workshop provides a space for exploring your own feelings and emotions as a couple around birth.

The focus is on facilitating discussion and learning, with a strong interactive element. Members of the workshop will receive balanced, researched-based and realistic information to enable them to reach informed decisions.

There are so many books and so much information on how to give birth. We want to show women and their partners that there is no "right" or "wrong" way to give birth. What is important is that you know what you say "yes" to and that you feel that you had an active part during the birth of your child.

Who is this suitable for?

This workshop is suitable for first time parents as well as couples having subsequent children. We are keen to keep the groups small, a maximum of ten couples, so that everyone will be able to play an active part. You may already have booked to do a set of antenatal classes. We are sure this one day workshop will still give you a different perspective.

What will the workshop cover?

The one day workshop contains information to make women and their partners aware of their options regarding the different stages of labour, delivery, pain-relief and postnatal care.

Where and when?

These workshops will be running on a regular basis. At the moment we have the following planned:

7th October 2007 - Shiva Health Centre, Kingston-upon-Thames

2nd December 2007 - Bottom House, Bucks Hill, Kings Langley

Participants will be given handouts to take away from this workshop. The cost per couple is £120.00. Kicki will also be available to clarify any issues or answer specific questions after the day. Please e-mail Kicki for an application form.
